Jabes is an effort to make an address grabber with an extensible architecture available to the open source community. The main usage is that a web site has a form for its users where they put their username and password to export their existing address book to the site. A number of sites with this ability already exist, like ringo.com, bebo.com etc The idea is to have an backend server, to do the exports and optionally to do mailing. The main extractors for now will be for msn, hotmail, yahoo, aol and gmail. To contribute, you may develop any other such extractors and mail it to me.
